We were talking about vectors of animal disease and parasites. But you do have a point, and yes, I do try to wash even the prewashed variety. Most things get cooked. I wouldn't eat raw vegetables in some countries I've traveled in and the source of infection is not the plant, but the fecal contamination of animals nearby. I was in China in 1989 and everyone on the day boat trip got sick, except my wife and me. Cooking was the first public health invention.

I look at all food like many other things as a potential source of illness. Most of our vegetables are cooked. Some won't tolerate it, and should be washed. I don't like raw produce from 3rd world countries because washing may not be enough.
