He should be a straight arrow because they have no mercy in their legal system. When I was there, I was told we shouldn't wear flashy clothing or jewelry (not a robbery risk, was considered rude and crass). It has changed so much since I was there, my opinions are probably out of date now.

We brought a bunch of granola bars with us, and whenever they took us somewhere that the conditions looked unsanitary, we ate our bars instead of the food. So I would advise you to tell him to listen to his instincts. If he has any doubts about where or what he is eating- tell him to eat his own food. The food poisoning our fellow tour mates came down with was no joke.
