<I won't cook them so will probably toss them instead of eating them from your experience.>

If you choose to eat anything uncooked (or simply washed, if that's all that is possible) then you increase your risk of disease. That's all I'm saying. Most of the time, it's probably okay, but don't make it a habit, especially if alternatives exist. If you live off foreign produce, you should wash it very, very well and its better if you cook it. If you eat meat, it should be cooked to more than 50 degC. If you advised someone how great you feel smoking, I'd think it would be fair to say that smoking can adversely affect your health.

I cannot tell you how charmed and pleased I am that someone cares about keeping me happy, Ish. What a nice surprise on a Saturday night!

Blueberry sauce over vanilla ice cream is very nice. You cook the blueberries with as much sugar as you would like, and boil the whole concoction, so that would cut down on your exposure to nasty stuff. It will keep for awhile in a lidded jar in the frig. You could also wash the berries carefully, and them freeze them in a single layer on a cookie sheet until they are hard (so they don't stick together). Then you put them in a plastic ziploc bag until you make smoothies with them, or blueberry muffins, whenever you want to. Is there a Mrs. Ish? Does she enjoy baking for you?

I don't think organic berries are really very much more expensive, especially at places like Trader Joe's. The ones I remember are grown in Oregon, so they are produced with first world standards of cleanliness. Berries are extremely good for you and high in antioxidants, so I would hate for you to give them up before you even started enjoying them.

re: blueberries ~ How about a blueberry pie? Or muffins? or pancakes? Or?? :) I don't eat the things, but that's one thing I miss from the farm. If I have life together (pausing to laugh at myself), I might see about leasing a friend's blueberry farm this year. Her husband passed away after a long illness and she works full-time, so it's been going to seed, so to speak, for a few years. One thing I like about blueberrys is they need no spraying, and we always just added some nitrite, I think it is, to the soil.
