Condor,
That was excellent. I already printed it, and it's on the office wall. It describes my flaw to a tee. Thanks.

Gee, I'm disappointed if I can't outperform the market big time.

What's the point of paying attention otherwise? Beating the fund managers is a snap (in the long run). Just got to follow a few simple rules.

"Cut your losers short, let your winners run."

And find those quality people who can help you do it. Long term versus short term is irrelevant. Making money or not losing what you have. Ultimately, that's all that matters.

I agree that ego can make a person very poor and lonely.

<I don't take double digit losses but if I did, a 10% loss only requires an 11.1% return to get back to even.>

Don't forget to add the commissions. For me a 10% loss would amount to a 13% loss after I sold.

Well, I enter positions with the intention of holding them for an extended period but that doesn't mean I just check on them once a year. I watch all the time to make sure that fundamental premise on which I bought them is still valid and the technicals are constructive. If the situation changes, you have to update your playbook. I agree that everyone has to work within a style that is suited to their temperament (I ain't no day trader). As long as it makes money, that is the key. Reminiscences of a Stock Operator really made me think about my approach to the market...

Yeah I've had Mr. Bum's thread bookmarked from Day one.. A great reality check...

I gotta admit the line about 95% of retail not beating the indexes .... makes me feel special if I forget about 2004 that is LOL..

BTW Anyone interested in / worried about Turkey... should consider that although a democracy yada yada yada... they are joining the EU... ironically this will SEVERELY curtail the tight fist that the government and courts keep clenched around radical groups there... also one might want to investigate the Turkish Hezbollah and government use of terrorists against Kurdish insurgents... never good getting into bed with terrorist... Especially if you turn on them after they serve their purpose... kinda makes them mad.. well granted it is just speculation... news.bbc.co.uk

Smoke comes from fire ?

I'm long ANO but these things curtail my enthusiasm to go loner...

Time to walk the doggies..
