if the end result is democracy in Iraq, democracy in Palestine, and spillover effects into the rest of the region, Bush and his policies will (fairly or not) get the credit for these historic changes. And what will be the Democratic position then? Will we be cast as the skeptics who never thought it could happen or were cynical about the motives?

The demo losses are not about skepticism. They are about Americans wanting to be winners.

First the demos have to decide if they want to become winners.

The demos have made a career of giving away handouts. W is saying to the recipients, "Listen up! You can make it on your own and save in taxes too."

The Republican messages of get an education, get a job, have a successful, secure and much more satisfying life are lost on demo politicians. I believe the demo offers of free housing in government owned slum cities and food stamps are beginning to be viewed more as crowd controlling (and vote ensuring) devices then a helping hand up. And just as we see folks in the Arab world rising to meet challenges for themselves, so too are are the folks on the lower rungs of the American economic ladder. Over 70% of American families now on their own home. They all now have a stake in the American pie called a dream. They will be looking to increase their family's slice of that pie and will be reluctant to hand over increasing chunks of it to the demo govt "programs".

It has not always been so, but currently we have more winners than losers in America. As long as the demos remain focused on the short end of an ever decreasing minority, they are doomed to lose.

W has slowly been shifting the focus from the war to fulfilling the American dream of opportunity and enabling each family to be able to secure their own future.

Winning a war, creating new opportunities for, and enabling the middle and lower classes are what made many past presidents wildly popular.

The current demo tactics of attempting to lose a war by controlling MSM and refusing to enable Americans who yearn for more opportunity are finally being viewed by many/most as shattering the American dream .

The demo boat is sinking and they know it, yet they remain lost sheep desperately searching for a new saviour. Kerry was supposed to be that hero but, unlike the demo leadership, most Americans do not consider blowing rice up your own butt to be heroic.
Screaming Dean is their new choice for saviour. Selecting a man they already made a loser to be leader proves just how desperate they have become.

The demo leadership would do well listening to Zell Miller, but they won't, so their boat will continue to sink even as their constituency rises.
