That doesn't mean that GOPUSA couldn't make a really terrible decision about Jeff/James. (Which they obviously did make.)

Plausible deniability. What was the resume of a typical Watergate burglar? These are the people one hires to keep distance ("Oh no, we'd never have hired a gay prostitute ringer!") The national leaders are the ones that say we need protection yet are incompetent in their own protection? I find that hard to believe.
