My husband and I took my kids and some of their friends to see Phantom of the Opera. Wow. Excellent production. I was really pleased with the theatricality of it. I wasn't totally happy with the Count- he was blah, but the leading lady is wonderful, and I thought the phantom was good too. The supporting actors are very nice- Ciarran Hinds plays one of the owners of the opera :-) I've always like him.

We all want to go in to SF and see the live performance now. It's a long movie, and even my 10 year old enjoyed it, along with her VERY hyperactive little friend- and if he can sit through it, I think it is a testament to the movie's hypnotic power. The beginning sequence, where the dust of 1919 blows away to reveal the magnificence of the 1870's theatre in its prime, was dazzling.
