EP,

Another SI member suggested the following. I don't know if it has been tried but I can imagine a hedgie tried:

1. Long trusts
2. Short energy futures

Aside from that, I don't have much for you.

D

If you want to hedge against a downturn in energy, how about going long Japan?

You could also hedge the airline stocks by buying puts on them.

There are also one or two trusts that you can buy puts on directly on US exchanges. Don't know if you can short the CANROY's on the TSX. ERF is one of them you can short.
