You are correct, in affluent USA the insurance business becomes mandatory for almost everything - to drive vehicles, mortgages, all loans, home ownership, etc. for the real wealthy and not so wealthy. It's a fact of life or existence based on loans and borrowed money. Medicare and medicaid are available for the elderly and indigents and such healthcare system is similar to that provided in China. In China, you have to make appointment and sometimes that's one week to three months away. The exception is private medical centers in China major cities for the wealthier citizens.

It would be nice to have the genetic makeup of Clint Eastwood. Not only for longevity but also for sharp mind. The fellow is 74 years old and his 96 years old Mom was in among the audience in last night's Oscar presentation. She can get by without insurance because she is healthy and has longevity genes. Most people are not so blessed. Many get natural health deterioration, and in affluent US there is plenty of wasted health insurance used for terminal cases just to buy a few more weeks of enjoying own sickness.

In Chinese cities, private health insurance is quite popular now. Most of people who work in private companies have their own private health insurance.

In China now, only a small number of people who work for all level of gov. and those who are retired from the gov. or public sectors still have free health care provided by the gov.
