Dual Core Opteron should launch in a few months, and has been well ahead of Intel's answer for a some time... until recently.

It was ahead until recently? Not much to brag about. Intel's dual-core processors are scheduled for Q2 release.

Public benchmarks may not be fully disclosed but I guarantee you from the preliminary benchmarks I've seen, dual 2Ghz cores will outperform a single 4Ghz core in many CPU intensive applications like gaming or simulation. Put dual CPU's with dual cores in a Workstation and you have a pretty serious product.

Intel will be offering a Dual-Core P4EE with HT enabled. That's 4 threads on one socket.

Then there's the 64bit issue where AMD holds an advantage with their Hammer architecture.

Again to quote you, until recently. Intel offers 64-bit P4s on the desktop as well as workstation/servers and Intel's EM64T Xeons outsold AMD's Opteron over 3 to 1 in the server market last year despite only being available for part of the year. This was supposed to be Opteron's strongpoint. Opteron has not fulfilled the promises of the AMD fanboys and Intel has not imploded as they expected either. I'm sure Dell has samples of upcoming products from both companies, plus confidential roadmaps. They made their decision based on what each company has to offer and who can deliver.
