Caveman in Beirut blog reports that the Lebanese government has just fallen:

Goodbye
Prime Minister Omar Karami just did it - he resigned right in front of the Parliament after a lengthy speech introduction in which he complained of personal attacks in the local Lebanese media. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri objected, saying that proper procedure required that Karami notify him first, but it looks like what's done is done.

The government has fallen. And now the fun begins.

I have seen no evidence that the Sephardim regard the Pals as especially different from other Arabs

I should have taken it a step further. I think the Israelis, especially on the right, have that attitude toward all Arabs. Hard for them not to have it, when they contrast what they have done with the Arab's accomplishments.

The Austin Bay exchange with a Syrian classmate that I just posted shows the problem. The Arab culture believes in autocratic domination of the society. So they end up with these non-functional societies.
