When a young Arab boy or girl strap a bomb on themselves and go out and murder in the name of their god in the stupid belief that their god will reward them for murdering innocent people it is IMO because they simply are doing what they believe to be the right thing.

Suicide bombers such as you are speaking of here are Palestinian. Poverty is a huge factor for these families. They do not do it to please god. They do it because they are being oppressed. They are oppressed and they bomb because of that. God only approves because the cause is righteous. Murder for murder's sake is not condoned. When your land and your livelihood are taken away...you too will become a bomber.

Same thing with the 9-11 bombers, which did not live in poverty...at least while they were on their mission. But they do not do it because it pleases god. They do it because it pleases god that they struggle against the occupiers and oppressors.

Now go back and re-read my post with this in mind.

Lorne...let me also stress that I do not condone the suicide bombing, or the 9-11 terrorists. There are better ways to solve differences.

At the same time I don't condone the policies of the US in Iran and in Iraq and in other ME countries over the past 50 years. This is what has led to the current hatreds and unrest.

What I am trying to do is to understand it. Why did it happen this way. Me and my family and friends have traveled the world. We have found that basic human nature is the same everywhere. The Arabs are not the beasts that you paint. They have the same human nature as you and I do. Sure there are bad apples in every culture...but don't forget that the broad majority of people in the world are peace loving.

But if someone does not start thinking soon of peace...then a cycle of war will be unending. Revenge is never sweeter than forgiveness. Especially when revenge means spilling innocent blood. Violence should be restricted to protecting our country from imminent danger. As the Bush administration has stressed over and over they never used that word. In fact the case for going to war and invading a country with all that entails was very thin. And we did not have broad support, and no support from Arab countries. The army of occupation needed to secure Iraq was not provided...and it meant additional death and costs for Americans and Iraqis. Poor planning at best.
