I can see why Cornell West would be miffed. Why didn't he challenge Summers?

He didn't challenge Summers because even in Black Studies it is hard to justify cutting a rap CD as a substitute for publishing articles in Peer reviewed journals. He was a University Professor, the highest level of professor with the most independence. University Professors don't report to their department they report to the president. When Cornell filed his Faculty Activity Report there were some gaps in the publishing record that were hard to justify given the expectations.
