You are speculating that a downturn in housing and a recession would trash the buck. I disagree.

For example: what happens to the YEN if we no longer buy their stuff?

What happens if there is a global recession?

I do not think any of us knows for sure, but I doubt that universal sentiment against treasuries gets rewarded over the long haul.
