kumar, If there was ever an extended period when stocks do not grow the whole system will be in trouble - with or without private accounts. Failure to recognize the tie between economic security in this company and corporate prosperity is either due to complete ignorance or arrogance. Ignorance if one cannot see it - arrogance if one simply uses it to scare people.

Where are you the spectrum of ignorance to arrogance?

There certainly isn't any guarantee that SS funds will continue to be available at current rates.....at least not without raising taxes a whole bunch on the fewer and fewer individuals that support it.

I think O'Neill's theory should be explored further.
