None of the parties from Northern Ireland will be received at the White House as any part of the St. Patrick's Day festivities this year. The Bush administration has made its decision on that.

And with the McCartney sisters coming as well, I think it is going to be kind of a downer for Sinn Fein. The Irish are very smart. Just because someone was a Provo in the 1970's and fought for freedom from English/Ulster Scots oppression for his people does not mean that he will necessarily support IRA/Sinn Fein in its current configuration, which is not so much an organization advocating for Catholics in Northern Ireland as it is an international criminal enterprise. They should have stopped their criminal activities when they no longer supported only people in prison and their families, and the purchase of arms and other costs associated with the freedom fight.

I think you will see some sort of identity crisis and a turning away from Sinn Fein by some.
