Now is the time to put the past behind us and focus on how they reach a lasting peace. Blaming Israel more or Palestinians more is fruitless discussion and is fairly typical backward-looking liberal fodder. Well, that's not entirely fair. Clinton understood what I'm saying and he approached the Middle East that way, not seeking to lay blame, but just searching for a way out for both sides.

I agree. However, the vast majority of Americans think Israel is the consummate good guy and the Palestinians all bad. Worse.......the neocons see the Israelis as holy guardians of Christian artifacts.

And even while you or I agree on this issue, American foreign policy still favors the Israelis. Carnegie Mellon University was raked over the coals last week for having anti Israeli/Zionist proponents talk to the student body. Do you know how I know? To my knowledge, it was not in the American papers. I got the news from the Jerusalem News and Debka, a web site maintained by former operatives for Mossad.

CMU is a not a big university........and yet, Israelis were well aware of anti Israeli sentiment on campus. They turned it into something anti Semitic and have brought pressure to bear on the university to stop the lecture series. Even though one of the lecturers was radical and extremist, that kind of informal Israeli censorship worries me.

I completely agree with you.
