Wal-mart would prefer 400 at subsistence level in a foreign tent city living on a bland diet of rice and beans. Since they aren't allowed to do it here, they will do it in Bangladesh. Perhaps the free market would be freer if they posted the pictures of the living conditions of the "extended Wal-mart family" at the front door. Then consumers could decide if they really want the lower prices.

Free markets are only free in an environment of openness, so like Marxist Communism, can exist only as ideal forms in the minds of their proponents. If I know my red-colored penny bubble gum causes cancer (or even suspect it) and my competitor's two penny bubble gum doesn't, what is my motivation to let the Free Market forces come into play? Exactly zero.

Do you think the minimum wage was a good idea or did it interfere with the free labor market? Unless you are from really rich parentage, you have benefited from Unions and probably shouldn't disparage them lest you be deemed a hypocrite.
