You are correct in that a lineman may disconnect lines to a home or group of homes and assume those lines are dead when they are not because one of the homes is generating power. However, standard operating procedures call for testing any line to verify that it is dead, not just assuming that it is.

The advent of home generated power would be a heads up to linemen everywhere that they must verify dead lines before handling them.

Also, power companies would know the location of power generating homes and can forewarn linemen when working those vicinities. I do not see this as a big safety concern. Linemen know their safety procedures or are not linemen for long.
