Ray, I agree with you on most of those points. I think Nixon would be kicked out of the Republican party today for being too liberal. Remember, he wanted a guaranteed minimum income, and was in process of proposing that - I agree with that idea. You could then eliminate Unemployment, Welfare, Aid for Dependent Children, and many other programs, and all the Govt. oversight, and spending to do this - and replace it all with a guaranteed minimum income, let's say maybe 1200/month?? - depends on which state you're in I guess, paid right from the Treasury. All those people in govt. administering those programs now could get other productive jobs. Alas, we demonize any kind of govt. help now, so it probably doesn't have a chance, but I think it was a great idea! BTW, I was a moderate Republican, voted for Reagan in 1984, and Bush in 1988, then saw what 12 years of Republicans did to our country's debt, and other social programs, and switched to the Dems in 1992. I agree with the very things you do Ray. Yet I took that test and came out a Libitarian.... What happened to the days of balanced budget ? Why does our government get larger and larger with more and more bureaucratic agencies.. Why is Washington filled with lobbyists who are paid fantastic salaries to impact our Representatives ? Why did Congress pass through the Patriot Act with so few of the members even reading it. Why is our environment not considered more important than corporate interests ? And ultimately people's lives ? Why is the idea of Global Warming considered a myth by the Conservatives ? So nothing is done. Why are those who care about this Country just as much if not more than the Conservative Right Wing posters told to leave and go to France with Socialists and Communists... That was a quote... Why when we believe our Country can be made better with the issues we consider important that are in concurrence with those who wrote the Declaration of Independence are we considered liars ? It is all very painful because where I see truth I am called biased and a liberal. Well, if labels are what one has to wear to believe as I have described so be it.
