Earlie, I agree with you. I just want to add a few more items that I consider very damaging for the future prospects of the U.S. The U.S. has adopted economic statistics as marketing tools instead analytical tools. As anybody on these threads can tell, it takes quite a bit of digging to find the real answers instead of rosy headline figures. In the computing business the term is garbage in garbage out. Obviously economic decision making cannot be helped when highly questionable figures are used in the policy making process. Optimism in the face of reality makes sense whereas blind optimism can easily be fatal! Facing reality demands honest and open assessments of difficult problems. I can see none of that!
