From what I've heard, the music is commercial free but a lot of the talk/sports shows still have commercials.

A recent J.P. Morgan survey found that satellite radio's biggest draw is the absence of ads. But that's only true for music channels, not the talk shows or sports channels. Of Sirius' 120 channels, 55 air commercials.

Probably the reason being is that they are rebroadcasting most of the talk radio like FOX or ESPN who have sponsorship. There are probably some sponsor free talk shows but I'm not sure.

I wouldn't equate owning music tracks to owning a home. I've never seen music appreciate in value. It's not something you can build equity in, retire in, help offset the ravages of inflation or sell it for more than you paid.

Music is a rapidly depreciating commodity because supply can always meet demand unlike real estate. In the old days you could at least recoup some of your money in albums and CD's at a garage sale for a couple of bucks a piece. Now days with everything digitized and copy protected, I'm not sure how you could extract any residual monetary value.

To me, having access to over 60,000 artists and 1,000,000 songs for a few bucks a month seems too good to be true. Maybe that's why I'm not in marketing.
