I have no idea about the Space Needle's reception in 1962, still a jewel after 43 years and best place to be in a big earthquake. I'm simply not willing to ignore the reality of economic cycles expect no less of our elected leaders. We get the Kingdome at one extreme (blown up already); and the monorail at the other end. The monorail project was driven by the force of, "Hey, let's build a monorail somewhere!" and so it will be a bastard child of commuting if ever built. The city council recommending to replace the Alaskan Way viaduct with a tunnel is another example of "We're all millionaires!" planning. I just hope that lame-brained idea never gets off the ground, so to speak.

BTW, I haven't actually seen the new Seattle Library, although from the pictures it looks futuristic; my only comment was it's gigantic price tag.
