The President of the United States, the Secretary of State, and the National Security Advisor all agree that the intelligence they relied upon in invading Iraq was inadequate.

If these mature and powerful people all agree that the intelligence was inadequate, then how can you say that an 18 year old who decided to join the war effort made an intelligent decision in any way, shape or form?

They made a decision based on false premises.

I was once 18 years old and at the time I had the intelligence of a lug wrench, despite my SAT scores. Young people are emotional and easily swayed, which is why all wars depend on young people.

Whatever these people THOUGHT they were signing up for, and their reasons for doing so, they will revisit as they grow older and wiser, and in all probability conclude that they had been had.
