jim, the Japanese govt is actively encouraging hedge funds to invest in the carry trade of short 3-month/long 10-yr JGB. the spread is nearly as good as the US spread. BOJ even had a road show in NYC.

I stand corrected.
I thought (without looking at a chart) given the US$ index that the YEN had rallied more than it did.
