It is expensive. And yes, I'm very lucky that I have time to play the piano. I began when I was five years old.

It's too bad your husband hasn't been able to develop his voice. It's so wonderful to be able to sing. My oldest is beginning singing lessons (and making noises about wanting to learn the saxophone, which I'm not sure we have time for since we also have flute/piccolo lessons). Music has been amazing for my kids. Being in the band has given structure and discipline to their young lives- and of course music is something they will be able to do for the rest of their lives, I hope, just as I still enjoy my piano. I'm glad they have interests that can last them all their lives, and interests that open such wide vistas for them. Music, after all, isn't just one thing- it's rap, rock, and classical, opera, jazz and musical theatre, and so on. It seems to me that when you learn to read music, and become proficient, you have another country to explore- just as we English readers explore the world of literature through books, musicians explore the world of music through the language of music- and to have that whole world open to you, is really enriching.

My husband was hurt that I didn't tell you how romantic he was, so let me just say he is very romantic, but not in ways I felt comfortable sharing about on a public board :-)

To the Mr:
Is that better honey?
