In Mexico you can buy your own prescription medications and bypass the doctor. My Sister in law (who has frequent sinus infections) goes to Mexico periodically for that reason. One caveat, however, is that by doing one avoids US product liability laws. This means saving the malpractice premium. (Lots of luck being the Gringo suing in Mexican courts.)
