There are a variety of methods for ‘birth control’ starting with abstinence or rhythm and extending to and including partial birth abortion. In the context of each one there are values issues, opinions, qualifications, and consequences both tangible and non-material.

The question of for or against, then, becomes something quite complicated and circumstantial. Politically people tend to line up with whatever constituency they find themselves in as a voting block. This, puts into question any personal ‘values’ statements that such a person may hold up as a determinant, other than loyalty to the party line.

At the heart of the question for reasoning people seeking clarity is the fundamental question of, 'when is another life our responsibility'. Is life sacred or not? At what point or under what circumstance is a 'right to life' inviolable and why? Most importantly who is qualified to make that determination?
