Actually, I think it has more to do with her desire to play more solos. Her band teacher has been begging some of the flutes to take up saxophone, because he has so many flutes- and he has been dangling the promise of solos in front of the kids. My oldest is a first flute, but she still has to share solos with the other first flutes- so if she were one of only a couple (tenor?)saxophones (or all by herself) she would have more scope, or so she seems to think. Also, she just really likes music, and wants to learn everything- we are starting piano lessons, for example (free, since I teach her :)
