The author presents evidence that it really was a big deal. CO2 levels began rising 8,000 years ago when upland agriculture started, and methane levels began rising 5,000 years ago when rice growing started. These increased greenhouse gas levels were at a time when they should have been dropping due to the 22,000 year precession cycle (wobble in axis of the earth's rotation). He says we should have started a new ice age 5,000 years ago, but didn't because of the increase in greenhouse gases caused by human activity.
