Actually... I believe the management overhead of the SS bureaucracy is extremely low, something like 0.2% or lower, if memory serves.

Most mutual funds wish they had such a low overhead.

Check out the numbers in the graph at the bottom of the page. By 2030, interest on the nation debt exceeds the costs of either SS or Medicare/Medicaid, by 2040 it exceeds the costs of BOTH programs together!
