The marine version of the F-35 can "loiter".

Compared to the Harrier, it can. But not compared to the A-10. The Marines were left on the deck with their Harriers during the Afghan campaign. One thing the cancellaton of the F-35 would do if force all of the Marines into the F-18s, which is now proved to be a much better solution for their CAS action than the present AV8 Harrier.

But, I know it ain't gonna happen! :>)
