The problem is that with my own kids I just violated their privacy shamelessly and I don't feel I can do that with someone else's children. Of course CW loved when I wrote about him, being a believer that any attention is a good thing. I was not allowed to write about Dan, and Ammo always demanded veto power over everything. A couple of girls in the choir make my writing fingers itch. My experience with girls is so much more limited and I am now being exposed to the DRAMA of teenage girls. Guys just punch each other or say, F*** you, but girls. With girls, EVERYTHING is spoken in Caps and accompanied by the most amazing extremes of emotion. Anything regarding their bodies becomes a near death experience. Anything involving Boys evokes emotional responses on the level of Romeo and Juliet or Love Story. We have one ninth grader who must have been Isadora Duncan in another life. She had this long fuzzy scarf that she wore every day and the whole time we were rehearsing she would be wrapping it around her waist, her neck, her arms, her head. I kept hoping she would strangle herself with it. When she showed up for a concert with it on over her choir dress, Michael told her it had to go and the Emotions Ran High. But I Always Wear It. Yes, but you can't wear it in a concert. But I Can't SING Without It! (Aside: trust me, she can't sing with it) Michael stood firm. Then just stand there and mouth the words, but no scarf. I NEED My Scarf. I Am A Dramatic Person. Yes, we know. No scarf. I PROMISE I WON"T MOVE! I WON"T TOUCH IT. Tears. You would think Michael had asked her to shave her head for the performance. After the scarf was locked in his office, she decided her shoes hurt and she took them off and then couldn't find them in time to go on stage. Identity. Watching them search for it is so touching. I know Ion sees this all the time in her English classes too. You just ache watching all the angst and struggle. How did we all get through it? I Know I Was A Dramatic Person and It Was VERY Difficult.
