I understand all that. But I hate to think of the miserable lives of those creatures.

I also understand there is a downside to everything - and each person has to weigh these.

One January I was looking at some property on an island in the Illinois River near a poor river town known for a poachers' hang out. I was talking to an old river rat when about a dozen shots echoed across the river. I mentioned that the volley was a lot of deer slugs being fired 2 months after deer season was over. He told me a herd of deer had been baited and he as the head poacher had come to the island to lure the game wardens away. He added that a lot of families had been without meat for a month.
