RE: "I would have to think that any real Muslim terrorist organization would wish to target the command & control center of the Pentagon complex, rather than the most heavily fortified and least occupied wing of the building."

Personally, I have a difficult time picturing the Pentagon as a terrorist target at all. For shock and awe, the White House would be the obvious first choice of a real foreign terrorist. I believe it would be fair to speculate that had the White House been targeted, it would have over shadowed even the WTC attacks in the hearts and minds of the American public. For all practical purposes, Flight 77 and Flight 93 accomplished a single goal; to divert attention away from the fact the White House was not hit. The loss of art and history which would have resulted from such an attack is almost impossible to imagine.

As terrible as 9/11 was, it was no where near as terrible as it would have been had extremists, who "hated our freedom", been behind the attacks. The White House would have been hit, and the towers would have been hit low after the market had opened.
