It is rather amazing what Bush tries to take credit for. I'd definitely give him Afghanistan, at least at the time, as a good move (until, like a small child, he was distracted by a different game). But Bush taking credit for Libya, Iraq, and Syria is like Hooker taking credit for the 'victories' of Antietam, Fredricksburg, and Chancellorsville - a dubious record which exposes his lack of judgement.

And when the neocons take credit for a possible Israeli/Palestinian peace, when it was really the death of Arafat that opened the door, is classic Bush chutzpah. When Bush was not actively destabilizing the Middle East, he was sending confusing mixed signals to both the Palestinians and the Israelis.

No one would ever accuse Bush of having a deft hand in diplomacy...
