Well, there is one thing that COULD be done that would be of great help to those of us that retired early. OPEN UP MEDICARE to ANYONE who is say 55 or older. Those 55-65 would pay THE FULL PREMIUM with no Government support, such as those 65+ get. What would this do? This would be a WIN WIN situation for both parties. Why? Cause GENERALLY SPEAKING people 55-65 are far HEALTHIER then those 65+. Since those 55-65 would be paying THE FULL PREMIUM based on the TOTAL POOL of recipients, they would IN EFFECT be underwriting some of the cost of the 65+ people. YET, those 55+ would be in the LARGEST MEDICAL POOL in the country. Going into a pool REDUCES cost as it SPREADS RISK. So, it would be a WIN for the 55+ people, cost the govt NOTHING and reduce the govts TOTAL costs of the ENTIRE pool by that amount the 55+ people overpaid. Now, why dont they do that? CAUSE THE INSURANCE COMPANIES want to rape and plunder this group, cherry picking the healthiest and the rest can BE DAMNED. jdn
