I didn't have numbers when I posted that, I admit. I had read an article recently which said Colombia and Mexico supplied most north American heroin. And I'd forgotten that southeast Asia produces a lot too.

I found this which says Afghanistan became the biggest producer in 1999, passing Burma.

And this confirms most heroin here comes from Colombia and Mexico:

South American heroin is most prevalent in the eastern half of the country, while Mexican heroin is dominant in the western United States.
