"Trying to kept up with Reagan" The decline started when the Soviets came to the conclusion that they had a shot at taking Europe during the 1970's. They built up their military and strangled their economy. The field test in Afghanistan didn't go too well after Reagan supplied bin Laden and others with weaponry and money. Now true, it helped the Soviets realize that they had invested in the wrong weapon systems, but there were some negative consequences to that also... Its really funny. I had never heard that the Soviet Union fell because of Reagan until I came to this thread and started listening to Fox News. And let me just say that I officed in the same building as Reagan for two years. He was always respected in LA but no one ever claimed that he brought the Soviet Union done. You would have been laughed out of the city. These guys have their own version of history. I suspect they believe it wasn't George Washington who was the father of our country but rather Joe McCarthy......and it was Richard Nixon who freed the slaves. And of course, it was General Rumsfeld who defeated the South during the civil war. LOL. ted
