WASHINGTON, April 13 (Reuters) - The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Wednesday gave Cheniere Energy Inc. (LNG.A: Quote, Profile, Research) approval to build a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal near Corpus Christi, Texas.

The terminal, to be operated by a unit of Houston-based Cheniere, will have an initial processing capacity of 2.6 billion cubic feet per day. Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2005.

It will have two berths to offload natural gas from special tankers that carry the super-cooled gas from overseas suppliers.
