That movie was a western version of the Japanese movie "The Seven Samurai," which is really good and available on DVD.

"Rashoman," which is a Japanese version of "King Lear," is also good.

Other than that the Japanese movies don't really appeal to me, but then neither do the French ones. I just got a Japanese flick based on "MacBeth" and it is as engrossing as the back of a box of cereal.
