This wave could finalize the extinction of the family farm, our what little is left of it any way. Not to mention the property tax base increasing. Farm property that has changed hands in WI goes under the tax assessor's microscope and a percentage is re-taxed as recreational land with a substantial increase in tax. Close Family friend sold 450 acres last fall for $2000 per acre and the new owners (non-farmers) are facing property tax buyers remorse.
