"Actually, he did...." Right. He armed and funded Osama and made some speeches. That is what did it... Um, sure, actually the giving of modern arms to the mujahadeen(sp?), particularly the Stingers, helped an awful lot. It was the final nail in that it proved to the Soviets that all of the talk the US had been making since the early '70s about intelligent weapons wasn't all empty. So all the money they have been spending since Johnson just bought them a bunch of targets. But it is something that the Soviets were going to realize sooner or later, probably later, and they were bleeding themselves white in the mean time.
