Phil,

I read that Yahoo article with complete astonishment. The reporter seems to be hired by some sort of Orwellian "Ministry of Truth". He has completely re-written the history of poppy cultivation under the Taliban in order to suit his propaganda ends.

In 1998, a proposal was put forth to eradicate poppy cultivation in Afghanistan:

dpf.org

In 2001, the program had nearly succeeded and the crop was a mere 1/10th what it had been prior to the Taliban taking control of the country.

As we know, as soon as the U.S. imposed its will on the nation of Afghanistan, the size of the opium poppy crop increased exponentially and is now larger than ever before in history.

If the U.S. is in charge of policy, isn't George Bush the biggest drug dealer on the planet?
