I live in an area that is mostly corporate, with a half dozen fortune 500 world headquarters within 10 miles (we are getting two more moving in this summer). Within 5 miles of me there are literally millions of square feet of office real estate, mostly less than 5 years old, sitting empty with for lease signs out front. Businesses are booming here but they are putting buildings up so fast that they are sitting empty. They are halfway through building a small 17,000 square foot retail building down the street, and the builder told me they have no firm commitments for tenants yet. They are building a 1/2 square mile office complex down the road this summer. and another large complex a half mile farther down.

It's crazy, but I can't really complain. The city is rich from all the corporate taxes and they are improving everyones property values with very nice public works projects.
