A lot of the man portable stuff was designed with a plan to fight the Soviet Union as well.

Abrams tanks and heavy bombers have both proved useful in our smaller recent wars. The cost premium for stealth will probably decline over time. The F-22 might (the $100+ millon fighter) might reasonable be cut. Its very capable and it is replacing decades old fighters but do have the F-35 program as well and there is some limit. If we cut both the F-22 nd F-35 programs we would probably have to design a new fighter in another 10 years. At some point the fighter designs that came out in the 70s won't cut it anymore.
