I don't see this reorganization as Irwin's retirement. Not in the least. True, he will give up the CEO position in favor of his son. But, guess what, he is still Paul's boss in addition to fatherly guidance counselor.

Too bad about losing Thornley though. All in all, an orderly transition and bound to happen sooner than later. Better that it is a planned transition than a required transition. As in Boeing's case.

I'm a registered Dr J fan club member but even so, sooner of later, he has to go. I wouldn't want him to hang in there while he turns, 80, 90, 100 with inevitable brain failure which comes to us all, bit by bit, or byte by byte.

Remaining Chairman is the right move at this stage.

Good for him.

A Kremlin-style gerontocracy at the top of a company is not a good idea.
