re: I didn't overlook that fact. My point was that it was Saddam's leadership that brought the turmoil to Iraq. The countries of Denmark, New Zealand and Costa Rica didn't get attacked, Iraq did. Saddam bears a huge responsibility for that, and Saddam had the power to avoid it if his interest was what's best for the Iraqi people, rather than what's best for himself.

So it is our right to invade and overthrow the government of any country that we deem isn't acting in the best interest of it's people? Is it other countries right to invade and overthrow the government of the US if they deem that our government isn't acting in the best interests of the US citizens? In your opinion, is sovereignty a dead concept; is the US now in charge of the world?

Saddam could have produced a peaceful resolution to the 1990's conflict by resigning - what's your reply?

My reply is that's intransigence. It is not the right of the US to demand that the leader of another country step down....even one as distasteful as Saddam. The world would (and did not) stand for that for very good reasons.

Saddam bears a huge responsibility for that, and Saddam had the power to avoid it if his interest was what's best for the Iraqi people, rather than what's best for himself.

I understand...but that's a pretty sweeping generalization and a long way from an invasion, particularly when the premise provided for that invasion has been bogus for as many years as we've been punishing his people for it.
