I saw that! Very interesting. Looks like the same old problem in the Middle East is cropping up in Lebanon. They hate Americans more than they love their own freedom.

I think its more complicated than that. I suspect Syria provides Hezbollah with the bulk of its financing. Hezbollah is a political party, a militia and a charitable organization. That takes a lot of money. And Hezbollah does not have a viable industry financing it. So I suspect they are very dependent on Syria.

Sometimes, I think Bush should just keep his mouth shut and apply subtle, under the table pressure. Instead, he makes threats through the world media, which makes the Arabs bristle, which complicates things. One more example of Bush's complete lack of understanding of how to use diplomacy appropriately. BTW, in my mind diplomacy isn't just negotiation. It is also, making threats behind closed doors, but letting people save face in public. With Syria, this would have worked a heck of a lot better than public threats.

I totally agree. I don't understand why the bushies take this approach to foreign diplomacy. It sounds like the kind of threats a dictator makes. In the past two weeks, Bush has dressed down the leaders of at least 5 or 6 countries. What does he expect will happen......these leaders will say okay and reform themselves and hand bush the keys to their country?

I am not asking the question rhetorically. If you understand how these people think, I would really like to get some insights. They don't make sense to me at all.
