Do you know of a synonym. I am looking for one that represents my feelings of happiness when I see others doing well. Seems like that is the opposite of envy which is a sin, but pride is the opposite of humility which is also a sin ... right?

C'mon word lady ... I know you can do it; g'me a word I can live with.

"OK, then, can you explain to me on what basis one takes pride in something someone else does?"

A feeling of some connection to that person such that one has an empathetic feeling of joy in their accomplishment.

I'm not sure why this is so complicated for you and, frankly, I'm quite bored with the whole dissection of the word "pride". No offense. Anything else?
